No text sound notifications after upgrade to ios17

I have a 14 Pro Max and I updated to ios17 last week. Ever since the update, I don’t get text notification sounds unless I turn the banners on. Before 17, I had no alerts for texts, but I was able to hear the sound. Is there any way around this without having to have a banner, etc?

My father was having this issue and it seems to be directly connected to his Apple Watch. Turning his Apple Watch OFF or turning on a Focus mode (Do Not Disturb), the chime for a new text would 100% go through to his phone when locked. Whenever I turned the Apple Watch back on, or had no Focus mode on it, the phone would not chime for a new text, only the watch would.

Looks like something Apple will have to ultimately fix, but I hope this helps some of you in the meanwhile!

Hi kellyfromjersey,

Thanks for following up. To make sure you've covered everything, double-check this to make sure they're not muted: Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

"Manage notifications

To manage your notifications from the Lock Screen or Notification Center:

On iOS, you have options to mute your notifications for 1 Hour or for the entire day.

  1. Swipe left over an alert or group of alerts.
  2. Tap Options, then select from these options:
    • Mute for 1 Hour
    • Mute for Today
    • View Settings
    • Turn Off

You can also tap View Settings to change your alert styles or alert settings for a specific app."

Best wishes.

Since the iOS 17 update, mine are a very, very low ding for all of my app notifications, so I’m missing them especially on my security camera alerts. My phone volume for notifications is completely up. Please change this back to the original or allow us to change them. Security alerts on a very silent ding is not helping me or anyone else having this matter.

They changed it back in the prior update, but now it has been changed once again to a different sound that once again, is hard to hear. Apple, please stop changing this notification, or give us access to change it ourselves. Mine are for our security cameras, and I would appreciate it if they would take it back to the original notification. 😡
