iPhone 15 charging optimization limit exceeds 80%

There was a know bug with this feature in earlier versions of iOS. Update your iPhone 15 to the latest version and the issue should be resolved.

Note, the iPhone may still charge to 100% sometimes to calibrate the battery.

It’s crazy how this is STILL an issue even with the latest 17.2.1 update. My phone charges intermediately since brand new then replaced it with another brand new one that did the same exact thing. Refused a refund, never charged to 100% even with optimization turned off. Only seems to happen with the iPhone 15 Plus I’ve been reading

They will NOT exchange it for the battery issue. It passes their “test” so they claim it is “fine”. I’ve talked to so many managers and service techs. We’re all stuck with this issue unfortunately. My phone has charging issues where it disconnects and reconnects all the time and stops at 80% with charging optimization off and doesn’t go past no matter how long it’s on there. The USB-C charging has major problems. The latest iOS 17.4 has still yet to fix it 6 months later.

If you have Optimized Battery Charging enabled, you have nothing to worry about.

You did not tell us what iPhone model that you have, but the iPhone 15 displays these options:

• Optimized Battery Charging
• 80% Limit
• None

The last few days the phone charges to 81 percent exactly. Ios 17.3. Before that it was charging to 80 with one or two times to almost 100. 15 pro maxt

i have iphone 15pro and it still charge at 100% even it is set to stop at 80% what should I do?

Using iPhone 15 with latest OS updates.

With 80% Limit enabled, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.

In case if it charges above 80% always, that’s a thing to worry..!

I just noticed this on my iPhone 15 Plus for the first time after 17.5.1 update.

Got the latest version as I wrote so that’s not the case…but the option that it might charge itself for calibration makes sens.

you have any article about it? Because I did not thought about it but it’s quite interesting.

Btw - is that a proper behavior that it worked only for a single charge after charging it to 100%?

Because after letting it charge to 100% next charging was till 80% and next one was again till 100%… I don’t get it… I don’t think that this batt calibration should be triggered so quick (or maybe there is something wrong with the battery or phone)?

Update: after 10 to 15 fully charging to 100%, the phone now started to charge to the 80% limit. For a few weeks now, and it did not yet charge to 100% for calibration. So the functionality finally works for me.

For me - after charging the battery few times in a row to 100 it started to do 80 on each charge. I thing that there were maybe 2 times when it did 100 again but I can tell that from over a month it always end up with 80% when I leave the phone. I’m using original charger and high quality usb-c cable (not the original one) and I don’t have any problems with overcharging at this moment.

I guess that the latest update 17.2 fixed something anyway, but for me on the previous update charging was already fine.
