iPhone 15 charging optimization limit exceeds 80%

I have my iPhone 15 charging optimization set to 80% limit. Today, I take my iPhone off the charger and the battery level reads 86%. Does anybody know why this would occur, and what could be done to prevent this from happening again? Thanks in advance for your response.

I have the same problem, also with iOS 17.1, on my iPhone 15 Plus. Every time the iPhone charges to 100%, even on the "80% Limit". This must be a bug.

FYI: I use the official Apple cable and charger. Please Apple fix this.

It’s crazy how this is STILL an issue even with the latest 17.2.1 update. My phone charges intermediately since brand new then replaced it with another brand new one that did the same exact thing. Refused a refund, never charged to 100% even with optimization turned off. Only seems to happen with the iPhone 15 Plus I’ve been reading

I’m having the same problem. My iPhone 15 charged until 82% and the 80% limit optimization was on the battery level went to 87% after restarting my device. Plz reply if someone knows why this happens and how I can fix this issue. Is it an iPhone problem and should I get it exchanged?

They will NOT exchange it for the battery issue. It passes their “test” so they claim it is “fine”. I’ve talked to so many managers and service techs. We’re all stuck with this issue unfortunately. My phone has charging issues where it disconnects and reconnects all the time and stops at 80% with charging optimization off and doesn’t go past no matter how long it’s on there. The USB-C charging has major problems. The latest iOS 17.4 has still yet to fix it 6 months later.

Apple states very clearly that the phone will charge above 80% up to 100% "occasionally".

The real question here is what exactly is meant by "occasionally". For some users, this might be every 7-10 days, others a few weeks and yet others every 4-6 weeks.

Having tried it both ways, I get better battery performance enabling Optimized Battery Charging and turning Off the 80% gimmick. Soon, there will be other new "gimmicks" in a new iOS version.

I connect the phone to the adapter at night and leave it connected all night.....every night.

This way, I start every day with the battery at 100%. If my battery dies a few months earlier than other users who are using 80% and charging more often, I could care less.

If you have Optimized Battery Charging enabled, you have nothing to worry about.

You did not tell us what iPhone model that you have, but the iPhone 15 displays these options:

  • Optimized Battery Charging
  • 80% Limit
  • None

If you have an iPhone 15, what setting is currently enabled on your phone?

Using iPhone 15 with latest OS updates.

With 80% Limit enabled, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.

In case if it charges above 80% always, that’s a thing to worry..!
