Is there possibly any way to get my computer to NEVER ask me again for admin permission for anything?

If you mean that literally, the answer is no. For example, authentication will be required to alter certain system settings and to alter the contents of /Applications or other areas protected from inadvertent or unauthorized changes.

If you suspect something is wrong though, please explain. Perhaps something is wrong.

Open Users & Groups System Settings. Look at your user name. Does it say "admin" underneath your name?

I'm thinking the same. I have not been asked to authenticate to delete a print job. Is it added to Printers & Scanners as an AirPrint printer? Is there anything in that printer's settings that requires some kind of security? I tried downloading the manual but it wants to install it on my Mac (!) and I'm reluctant to do that.

The printer is hooked up standard USB.

You don't need to do that with that printer, or any AirPrint-enabled printer. It might be the reason for your troubles.

To be completely accurate some USB-connected printers can use the AirPrint protocol for communication over USB, but it is as unusual as it is unnecessary.

I'll load up the browser CUPS to see if there's any options for security.

That is a possibility.

Canon's software may additional options the standard macOS print dialog may not offer. Although they can certainly provide those options through printer-specific choices in the Print dialog, perhaps they chose not to implement them. You probably need to contact Canon.

FWIW, I took your question literally.

FWIW, I don't know since I've never done it, but deleting a print job may require an admin password.
