Apple doesn't send you the update, if your phone qualifies, you can install the update yourself.
• If you have an iPhone 5S or 6/6plus, the highest you can update to is 12.5.7
• If you have an iPhone 6S through 7, or SE 1st generation, you can update to 15.8.2
• If you have an iPhone 8 or X, you can update to 16.7.7
• If you have an iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), or XR through 15, you can update to 17.4.1
Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Sure. And earlier iPhones cannot update to as recent a version as the iPhone X. The iPhone 6, for example, cannot be updated beyond iOS 12.5.X.
that’s interesting cause other apple iphones later than x can update to ios 17
…..as you would expect, as they are newer phones.
You bought products that came out over 5 years , not sure how long you expected to get updates
No, if you are asking about updating to iOS 17.

Done with Apple. As an iPhone X user, I guess I will not be getting another Apple watch since it can no longer be updated. I'm really sorry that I ever bought this watch now, since I'm not about to buy a new iPhone just so I can update the watch. I feel totally ripped off by Apple. When I do upgrade, I can assure you it won't be with another iPhone or Apple watch.
And when you buy a phone from another manufacturer at some point, it too will no longer be able to keep up with fast moving technology updates. There is no such thing as a futureproof cell phone, which for as many years as you can use it will be able to be updated to whatever the current OS version is. NO DEVICE can or will promise to do that.
The mere fact you are upset about not getting an update for a phone released 7 years ago, is an amazing testament to the longevity of the device itself.
Enjoy whatever you buy next, but it too will one day be past its useful live.
Check the bottom of the screen once you do Settings > General > Software Update.
UPDATE - Oops - sorry - see KiltedTim's response which is correct. Ignore my incorrect response.
The iPhone X is not compatible with iOS 17. iOS 17 requires a Xs, Xr, or newer.
I’m gonna send a feedback to Apple and tell them to try to bring iOS 17 to iPhone X
I’m really so stressed right now ,my phone can’t upgrade to the new software Simply because its iPhone X, just bought it a few months back ,have no money to buy anew iPhone, what do I do just switched from android to iOS and ops the one I bought doesn’t fit for new software 🥹😭
My daughter’s Apple Watch screen cracked and Apple sent it away to be repaired under AppleCare. They replaced it instead - but now it is not compatible with her iPhone X so it is useless. I am going to take it in and see what they can do to remedy the situation but now I am left with a useless watch 😒

I blame the watch not the phone, just bought the darn thing 4 months ago and now it can't be updated without buying a new phone too.
I understand the comments but it doesn't make it right.
Done with Apple.

Is there any fix to this ?
because there are many apps which are directly stating to update it to newer version or it will stop working, they are also not working to fix the compatibility with version less than 17. Not everyone is capable to buy the costly phone in every 4-5 years.
Did it work on you
