I had a custom email sound set up for senders marked as VIP, for my iPhone and iPad, but it is no longer working. I tried setting up a new alert, but that is not working either. Was this functionality eliminated?

iPadOS 16/17 still supports setting a notification sound of your choice:
Settings > Notifications > Mail > Customise Notifications > VIP >

Thank you for the quick reply. I had already set alerts with the same instructions you shared, both on my iPhone and on my iPad. For some reason, I am no longer alerted with the custom sound or any other method, when I receive emails from senders marked as VIP’s. I removed the custom alert and then added it back, but I still doesn’t work on either device. I thought maybe the functionality had been discontinued, but it does not sound as if it has. Not sure why it’s not workin. Just odd.
I appreciate your trying to help. If anyone else has had this issue and has been able to resolve it, please let me know.
I have had the same problem after I updated my phone from the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 14 and it immediately stopped working. I have reset my phone to factory settings 2x with apple support. Erased everything and after months of still nothing I made it to the Apple Store which is over an hour a way and nothing. Not to mention while they tried to figure it out some of my settings turned off and I can't seem to get them back on. It's frustrating for sure. Wish I had the answer but I am in the same boat as you.
