Satellite

If you're referring to the Satellite connection built into your new iPhone, no you can't. It is intended for situations where you can't connect with a cell tower, don't have Wifi and yet you need to get emergency assistance. It's not for messaging your contacts.

It's not part of your carrier plan. Apple is providing access for two years with your new iPhone. If you keep the phone longer, you'll need to pay for satellite access. I have no idea how much that might be.
