Standby screen changing on its own overnight

This is just odd behavior, doesn't make the phone unusable or anything, just mildly annoying. I have an iphone 15 pro max. Latest ios. I set my standby screen to the full screen digital clock. At some point around midnight, it changes itself to the default (I think) half and half screen with the clock face and the calendar. This only happens when on a magsafe charger, every time a magsafe charger is used. If I use any other charger I have, everything behaves as expected, and it stays the full screen digital clock the whole night.

For more details, I wake up often throughout the night, and just anecdotally, every time I've woken up before midnight, it's still the full digital clock, and every time I've woken up after midnight, it's switched screens, so it seems to be happening around midnight. When I notice it's happened, I switch it back to the screen I want, and it stays for the rest of the night.

The first few nights I had the phone, I just used a generic wireless charging stand that I've had for years, and everything worked as expected. Then my magsafe charger arrived and I started using that, and that's when the odd behavior started, so I put two and two together and started trying a bunch of different chargers to test. Again, the issue happens every time I use the magsafe, and only when I use the magsafe. It's an official apple magsafe charger, plugged into an official apple 20w usb-c power adapter, purchased from the apple store. I only have one to test with, so it could just be defective somehow. No idea what would cause such a strange thing though.

No one from apple has ever gotten back to me. I just keep hoping a software update will fix it, but no luck so far.

The only solution I've found is to not use my apple mag safe charger for standby mode at night. Using a non-apple wireless charger is what seems to fix it for me, and a couple other people. Kinda bonkers really.

Happens to me as well, using the two-widget display with clock on one side and weather on the other, the clock switches to photos around the time of my morning alarm. Super annoying. I think it’s related to the “Smart Rotate” function. This is supposed to auto switch to a widget when new timely info happens, which I guess could be neat but in this case I shut it off. Press and hold on the widget which is changing unwantedly, and either remove all the other widgets from that stack, or just turn off Smart Rotate. LMK if this works for you guys! Good luck.

Very similar issue with my 15 Pro Max. I charge it using a MagSafe belkin charger overnight and mine changes on its own too. But it’s after I disable the alarm clock in the morning via my watch. I’ll look over at my phone usually right before my actual alarm goes off (weird I know) and it’ll be the way I want it, with the clock and calendar 50/50. After the alarm is disabled the standby screen changes the clock to the photos option. No idea why.

Anyone ever get back to you on this?

I use standby with half clock and half weather widget on.

I also wake up frequently.

Every night the clock portion automatically changes to photos. I mean what? Why the **** would I want photos on a night mode clock when it’s red and you can’t see anything anyway?

There’s no setting I can find that changes the view.

I’ve been struggling with this photo thing lately and I finally figured it out!

Turns out that you can swipe the screen up and down and left and right once it has entered standby - there are different versions of the standby screen to pick from. And one of them is the silly photo mode!

In order to change it, plug in your phone or attach the charger, wait until standby mode has started, and swipe to find the version you want! I hope this helps someone else frustrated with the red picture mode in standby.
