Why does my iPhone 15 Pro Max screen turn off after 30 seconds in StandBy mode despite Always On being active?

OK, the last thread (with the same title) went dormant and I can’t post to it, but I have more information about this issue.

I bought a stand made by Journey, a company whose name I’d never heard; I liked the design of the stand, so I bought it.

Some time in the night, my iPhone 15 Pro Max would go dark; touching the screen would get Standby working again. I thought it was an issue with a setting on my phone, but that turned out not to be the case.

The company assured me that they don’t throttle or turn off power at any point when a phone is on the charger; they told me the issue had to be with my iPhone. This turned out NOT to be true.

I then bought a Belkin 3-in-1 charger, and it worked perfectly all night. The only issue was that my phone, being a Max, was close to my Apple Watch, which was on the charger to the right of the phone. I kept knocking the watch off the charger, which was annoying, especially in the middle of the night if I reached over for any reason.

I finally bought a 12 South charger stand (the HiRise 3 Deluxe) and it too works perfectly, all night, without my phone going dark. I prefer it to the Belkin because of where the watch charger is located.

So, if you’re having this issue, I’d bet it’s the charger; I recall someone mentioning an Anker stand that was causing issues; while I love Anker products, I’d be willing to bet that trying a different stand (both the Belkin and the 12 South are Qi2-rated) would solve the problem.

It sounds like the issue you were experiencing with your Journey stand was related to its charging standard or power delivery consistency rather than your iPhone settings. Since both the Belkin 3-in-1 charger and the 12 South HiRise 3 Deluxe worked flawlessly overnight, it's safe to assume that Journey's stand might not be fully optimized for Qi2 or continuous power delivery.

Many users have reported similar issues with other non-Qi2-certified chargers, including some models from Anker. These issues typically arise due to:

  • Intermittent power delivery, causing StandBy mode to turn off.

  • Inconsistent Qi charging, where the charger briefly stops supplying power.

  • Low power output, which might not sustain StandBy mode overnight.

Solution:

If you're facing this problem, switching to a Qi2-certified charger like the Belkin 3-in-1 or 12 South HiRise 3 Deluxe should resolve it.
