Strange mouse click issue after updating Sonoma on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro M1 2020, it's having some strange mouse click issues right after I updated to macOS Sonoma. Anyone having the same problem? I hope Apple fixes the problem soon, it's irritating.

It was happening because I had McAfee total protection enabled. It's all fixed, mcAfee total protection will have to come out with an an update so it will be compatible with macOS Sonoma. I contacted Apple about it and they was doing a screen share. I disabled the virus protection.

Agree that Chrome seems to be the issue, even though it impacts other applications. Even with the built-in "Calculator" app which I usually have up. I am still on Ventura (13.3.1), and this only started happening this week. Chrome build is 118.0.5993.117, so a Chrome update does seem more likely cause.

What I have encountered is a problem with "stale" applications. Overlapping windows that haven't been accessed for a while (a couple hours, maybe) become un-clickable. I need to expose a new part of the app, and that newly exposed area is usually clickable, even when the title bar is not. Then, I can click anywhere in the app normally.

My GPU rasterization was set to "Default" and now it is enabled (which should be the default). I can't tell if that fixes it yet, as it takes a while to start happening, but I'm hopeful.

I'm so glad it's not just me, but so frustrated I've been wrestling with weird mouse issues for weeks! (Magic Mouse 2).

I've tried all the tips on all the usual sites. No weird software running. Disabled/re-enabled bluetooth. Forgot/re-paired mouse. Fully charged it. Booted into Safe Mode. Back into normal mode.

Issues are persisting, and intermittent which is SO annoying and disruptive to working all day 😠 Problems I'm experiencing include:

> Left-click taps on the mouse will think they're right-clicks (ANYWHERE on the mouse, popup menus are driving me crazy when I jus want to left-click!)

> Scrolling is randomly intermittent (fine in one app, switch to Safari and it won't work, but then it will, then it won't).

I'm just updating from 14.0 to the latest update, hoping that will do something positive. Will be keeping an eye on this thread now too.

Good luck out there everyone! 🤞

I didn't have this issue with Ventura, it started after Sonoma upgrade. What's interesting, this bug is not present when playing a game for example. I tested mouse with PC and other devices and mouse worked perfectly.

Well, I didn't have any mouse problems with Ventura too, and don't have any problems with Sonoma too and that's with two magic accessories. Like I mentioned earlier, my MBP is 4 1/2 years old, and no such problems whatsoever those with newer Macs have.

Now, as these are Bluetooth devices, so how about uninstalling them from Bluetooth from your Mac and reinstalling them? Mind you, both my Magic devices are used ones and they work.

I have the MacBook Pro from 2019 and after I updated to Sonoma, my trackpad stopped clicking when I press it. Sometimes it works randomly, but mostly it doesn't work at all. I have to click things 1-5 times for it to actually select what I am trying to hit. It's very frustrating. I tried rebooting multiple times and it has not done anything. I do not have an anti-virus installed. Apple PLEASE fix this problem!

Couldn't it be a hardware problem? You use it, so it could be how you had been using it, and/or maybe something had gone under it and blocking it, or the trackpad is simply malfunctioning. It is the 4th year now, after all.

Experiencing what sounds like this issue for the first time after updating to Sonoma 14.3, like other users here the issue occurs with a third-party mouse, the Logitech MX Master 3. With a Mac Studio M1 Max.

Battery is full charged. Issue dissipates on reboot before reemerging. Seems to be registering false clicks in addition to not registering others. Seems to be some sort of loop happening.

The “edit” menu in the header bar will blink as though it is being clicked repeatedly. Things on the clipboard will repeatedly paste into a text field. Etc.

Mouse and keyboard work without issues on other devices. Only the Mac. Only with the most recent update.

This is happening across many functions on the Mac.

Equipment: Logitech MX Anywhere 3, MacBook Pro M1 Pro, 16-inch 16GB

MacOS: Sonoma 14.5

Previously, I was using Monterey and everything was fine until the latest update Monterey 12.7.5. So the issue has now made its way to Monterey

I first noticed it because in Safari, when I went to fubo.tv, I couldn't click anything. So I upgraded to Sonoma thinking it was maybe because my OS was old and fubo did something that made it somehow incompatible.

After I updated to Sonoma, I noticed all these other issues that everyone has been describing. Several functions are affected:

  • Top menu click to select doesn't work. You have to click and drag to select the items
  • Workspace issues. Can't click to add or delete any workspaces
  • Fubo.tv doesn't work. Can't click on any items in the fubo.tv website - so I can't view any videos
  • Installing App. When installing an app, click and drag to Applications folder hangs ... eventually, it somehow does install
  • Chrome issues. This issue seems to be affecting Chrome as well. I just upgraded to Mac Sonoma 14 and now … - Apple Community

Oddly enough, I have an older MX Anywhere 3 mouse that doesn't seem to have the problems. No difference except that mouse is about a year older than the one I was using

I installed the Logi+ app too and checked the settings and they are both the same.

In summary, this is a big annoying issue that is affecting a lot of people.

I don't have a workaround for it, though I've tried all the other potential fixes and they didn't work for me.

Just updated my imac to Sonoma and now my magic mouse decides that it won't double click or right click at times.

My Wacom started doing the same thing where the pen would just stop working. i have to turn it off/on then it'll work for a bit then stops responding.

I've looked through all the threads and i dont have an antivirus, i dont have random USB things plugged in, I've restarted the mac many times. I clean the mouse, disconnected/reconnected. I did all of the suggestions and the result is the same. The mouse does what it wants, when it wants.

When i was using Big Sur, no issues like this.

i know the issue is in Ventura too as i've experienced this at work.

Seems like this issue has been happening to many people for a couple years now so when will this be fixed?
