Since this iOS 17 update I can no longer search my messages on my iPhone but I can still search on my iPad… HELP!!! It’s been 2 additional updates since the 17 update and it still isn’t working!!!!

I had this issue as well and I was able to fix it! I figured out that for me, it was because not all of my iMessages had downloaded from iCloud. This is how I fixed it:
1. Before bed, I put my phone on the charger and was prepared not to use it for the rest of the night
2. Settings —> Apple ID, iCloud+, Media & Purchases (at the top) —> iCloud —> Show All (under Apps Using iCloud) —> Messages —> toggle off “Sync this iPhone” —> click “Disable and Download Messages” —> wait a minute or so, then toggle back on “Sync this iPhone”
3. Open iMessages app (there should be a message at the bottom of the screen that reads “Syncing with iCloud”)
4. Set my phone down without locking it (still plugged in) and didn’t touch it for the rest of the night (I don’t know if the “without locking it” part was necessary, it may still work if you lock the phone but this is what I did [I had my auto-lock display settings set to “Never”])
5. The next morning, I tried searching a word I know I’ve used a lot over the years and was able to see everything :)

under the search box in the text message. After toggling the search button a few times and a couple hard resets….. the search option is working now.
Is yours not showing that it’s indexing ever? I had to wait overnight and into the following day for mine to complete this process.
The update to 17.1.1 fixed it for me as well.
I'm sorry to hear that! This year looks like one of those years that Apple has not fully tested all of the features of iOS 17 before launching it. I didn't have the phone warming problem like others have, but that problem made some noise at least. I purchased the iPhone 15 Pro too.
From what I’ve read, this is fixed in the for 17.1. Some have indicated a manual reset of indexing may also be required once installing the new version. I’d be a bit surprised if that is actually the case especially with a final version released to the public. That said, it blows my mind how this one got past Apple in the first place since it’s a headline feature they completely broke.
I updated to the 17.1 and it did not fix NOT ONE ISSUE… 🥴.
I’m so disappointed in Apple.. Especially since I’ve reported this since the initial update in September and was told by many that Apple was aware, had 2 updates before 17.1 and still hasn’t been fixed. My photos & links in specific contacts won’t download either. SMH.
No. Unfortunately not. Still all the same issues along with the curser being defective as well. Nothing was fixed. Which is a a shame because so many ppl told me Apple knew of the problem and it would be fixed in 17.1 and it sadly has not been.

Still can’t search text messages for words, photos or links are not downloading.
Curser still moves to wherever it’s wants. Highlights words you aren’t even trying to correct.
Caps lock can’t stay highlighted.
This is so disappointing and frustrating!!
I’m still waiting. Lol. It’s been 36 hrs and still nothing. At first it said it was not finished indexing. Now it just goes black after I type in a word. So I guess maybe I’ll just wait some more and hopefully mine will show results. BUT, I can say my email folder suggestions have come back so when I select a email to move to a folder, the suggestion (where it has been moved previously) comes up. I am grateful for that.… Now I just need for the text and to download the links and pics shared with in the text messages .. along with the search and I will be super grateful.
I honestly can’t comprehend how we keep going backwards with these updates! Why mess with a feature that worked very well and legit make it useless. You search and it shows the most irrelevant thing and maybe one conversation. My phone is up to date and it has not been fixed with the latest update!!! Please fix the search feature in messages and while we are at it…fix the language thing ok keyboard. Why am I on English keyboard and it writes words in my other keyboard also changes peoples names for no good reason! Just frustrated that these updates mess with more stuff than fix it.

No I haven’t. I was told that it wouldn’t work for my issue so don’t even go through the hassle. But at this point I have no clue. Do you think it would work? It has gone from a blank screen saying nothing to now it’s back to indexing.
