I just started to chat with a new contact. I have their name and cell number in my contact list. When I click their name and then the icon to send a text message to their cell, they receive the text but instead of it showing my cell number below my name, it shows my Icloud email address. how do I set this back to show my cell number?

Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and make sure that your phone number is checked under "Start New Conversation From".

Thank you, problem solved. I had do not allow account changes or password changes. I have adjusted these and now I am able to have my cell number show up.
Go to Settings>Screen Time and see if anything is not allowed in Content & Privacy Restrictions.
Also, check Settings>General>VPN & Device Management. Do you have a profile there from your work or school? If it says "Sign into Work or School Account", you don't.
Thank you for the help. But, when I go to my "messages" I cannot access the send & Receive section. it is greyed out. along with the iMessage above it. it is on but all greyed out so I cannot turn off or on. seems like it is locked. I don't know how to unlock that access.
