Screenshot (formerly Grab) is not working correctly. Screen remains dark after completing capture.

After updating to Sonoma Grab (now called Screenshot) does not work correctly. When I open the app the screen dims except for the area I want to capture. I can move and resize the capture area with no problem. However after making the capture the screen does not return to its original brightness. The only way to return to the original brightness is to restart the computer. I am using a 27" 3.6 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9 iMac with macOS Sonoma 14.0 (23A344). How may I fix this problem?

After reading your suggestion I was able to determine what nthe issue was. I was in the record mode. When I switched to capture after I captured the area of the screen I wanted the screen brightness returned to normal.

You can also do a screenshot by opening Launchpad ... Other > Screenshot
