iPhone Not Vibrating After Update to ios 17

After updating to iOS 17 my iPhone 13 Pro Max no longer vibrates when I receive a text or other notification. Steps I've taken:

  • Verified Focus/DND is off.
  • Verified vibrate is on. Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Vibration > On.
  • Verified Haptics are on. Settings > Sounds & Haptics > System Haptics > On
  • Verified Hapitcs Play in Silent Mode. Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Haptics > Always Play
  • Verified Haptics are on for Texts. Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Text Tone > Haptics > Heartbeat
  • Restarted iPhone.
  • Updated iPhone to iOS 17.02
  • Restarted iPhone
  • Reset All Settings

Nothing works. It doesn't matter if my phone is in Silent mode or not. My vibrate motor works when I test it by creating new vibrations. It also gives haptic feedback when I use my keyboard. The only time it doesn't work is when I get a text message, call, or any other alert (i.e. Snapchat message). Before updating everything worked fine.

If you have a Apple Watch and updated to the most recent OS, you will only receive notifications on your watch per support:

This is a new feature from the last software :/

Notifications appear on your Apple Watch or iPhone, but not both.

If your iPhone is unlocked, you'll receive notifications on your iPhone instead of your Apple Watch.

If your iPhone is locked or asleep, you'll receive notifications on your Apple Watch, unless your Apple Watch is locked.

you can see that the information is true in this article from Apple: Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

You can provide feedback using this link and select watch because this was a watch update: Feedback - Watch - Apple

I was having the same issue with my iMessages. My vibration said it was on and my haptics and all that were also on and nothing. I’m not sure about other apps but for iMessage I found something that may work. Go to Settings>> messages>>notifications>>sounds>>vibration>> choose which one you want. Mine was set to none for some reason.

my post was about the vibrations for iMessages. Never mentioned about the sound not playing.

bc my phones been updated and my phone wouldn’t vibrate for my iMessages whether on silent or not.

But for me; under messages>>notifications>>sound>>vibration that’s where my issue was. my vibration setting was set to “none” so I changed it to the ‘synchronized’ vibration and that fixed my issue. It could just be mine though.

Hi hoiks,

You've done some great troubleshooting so far. If this is happening with apps that were downloaded, updating those apps may help: How to manually update apps on your Apple device

If the issue continues, the app developer may have some additional steps to take. Here's how to contact them: How to contact an app developer

1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.

If you've noticed this behavior with built-in apps as well, reach out to Apple Support directly so they can look into this with you further. They can be contacted here: Get Support or by calling the most applicable phone number from this list: Contact Apple for support and service.

Regards.

I found this below but had to do another step. On the sound screen at the top hit Haptics. My update had a tiny little vibrate. I made a custom one that you just extend the length of the vibrate and save it. Now my phone notifies me with a longer vibrate. Hope this helps!

Go to Settings>> messages>>notifications>>sounds>>vibration

SOLUTION FOR ALL WITH IPHONE 13 PRO MAX THAT DOES NOT VIBRATE AFTER IOS 17 UPDATE

I'm responding to myself, seeing that this was a problem for users with the iPhone 13 PRO MAX. I even took it to the Apple Store in Ginza, Tokyo, and they didn't want to replace it; they wanted to send the device to the factory for investigate issue of not vibration instead of change me the device, with apple care + thief. anyway:

As I was saying, today I bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and to my surprise, it also didn't vibrate.

Well, I've found the problem. For some reason that I don't understand, in the iOS 17 update on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, system-level vibration is disabled:

Accessibility > Touch > Vibration.

If this is disabled, no type of vibration works throughout the system. And for some reason that I don't understand, the iOS 17 update on the iPhone 13 Pro Max deactivates it.

I don't know why I'm helping you, as they were very rude to me the last time I went to the Apple Store. In fact, they scammed me out of 130 euros. However, here I am, helping you, and on top of that, I bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Anyway, I hope to help someone because this issue had me desperate.

I have the same problem.

And I know it's a software issue for the following reasons:

I was going crazy with my iPhone 13 because it hasn't vibrated since the update to iOS 17.

Today, I bought an iPhone 15 PRO MAX, restored the backup, and COINCIDENTALLY, it still doesn't vibrate.

It's quite clear that it's a software problem, then.

I think it may be related to having a custom vibration, but the truth is that the device doesn't emit any kind of vibration. It simply doesn't vibrate in any function that should have vibration:

I'm an Apple developer, and I've tried to create an app that vibrates, and it just doesn't work.

There must be something in the settings that didn't go well with iOS 17, and the device simply stopped vibrating completely.

Please, we need a solution. I don't want to have to delete my backup.

And I don't even want to try if that's the issue.

Just fix it. There's some problem causing the devices to never vibrate.

Apple: you do realize that some of us customers NEED the old vibration function because we can’t hear, right? We are deaf and the old vibrations are simply not noticeable to know when someone is calling. Don’t you have “accessibility” requirements in place for disabled ppl?

Apple does not read here in this user-to-user forum. If you want them to know your thoughts, use the feedback page:

Have you also contacted Apple directly via the Support chat option? I would suggest doing so.. the more people that complain about this flaw, the more likely Apple may fix it. You can also do the Support chat feature via your iPhone or iPad, I believe, too. We need everyone to contact Apple and complain about this.

I agree that this issue needs to be fixed ASAP as it's now been going on since Sept. I miss a lot of calls and texts since I can't feel my phone in my pocket anymore.
