wanting Apple TV 4K remote to turn on and off and control volume on my receiver, tv and Apple TV 4k
Activate CEC on all HDMI devices for waking and setting to standby all devices, when the remote sets the same for the Apple TV box. For Apple TV: Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Control TVs and Receivers﹥On. For the TV: See its manual. For the receiver: See its manual. It may be always-on for some brands and models receivers. Some TVs or receivers may not listen to the suggestions from other devices to go to standby.
For Volume Control, Apple TV remote controls either the TV or receiver, but not both, as the receiver use should deactivate the TV’s built-in speakers. If the receiver is always in use with the TV, then choose to control the receiver.
If the receiver supports volume control over CEC, then the remote will send the request through the Apple TV box. Else the remote will use IR directly to the TV or receiver.
If it doesn’t work as expected/wanted using Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Volume Control﹥Auto, then consider one of the other options there: HDMI, Receiver via IR, TV via IR, Off, Learn New Device (in case non-standard IR signal are needed for volume control).
