Using MS Edge on a 2023 MacBook Air:

Use a Virtual Machine: On a Mac with a Silicon Ship, you can run Microsoft Windows using Parallels. Essentially, a Virtual Machine is Windows-in-a-window. Go here: https://www.parallels.com/

Or you could run the Apple-Silicon-native macOS version of Edge.

It's been a long, long time since Microsoft discontinued the Macintosh version of Internet Explorer (just as Safari was coming out), but it looks like they're interested in offering a browser that runs on the Mac again. Presumably they want to guide people to Bing instead of to Google …

Why Microsoft Edge in Today's Apple Market?:

It's probably related by Microsoft to keep people on three side, along with configuration-requirements for updating Windows-based software. I have an iBook with MS Internet Explorer on it, and use it for no more then troubleshooting. If you think about it, Microsoft has changed its Control Panel to not being titled Settings. It needs to keep up with today's market of mobile software.

Edge runs on iOS and Android. "Multiple devices and platforms" is one of the features that Microsoft uses to lure people away from one-time-purchase versions of Office to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions.

But yes, as far as having one of the dominant mobile operating systems goes, that horse is already out of the barn.
