iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera Blurry and Out of Focus

Hi All,

It seems im not having a very good experience with the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. Coming from a 14 Pro Max the pictures were great. nice and sharp, never had issues with "blur" or "grainy" photo's.

This new iPhone seems to be a downgrade in the photo's it can produce. I'm constantly getting very grainy photo's even with the slightest bit of zoom after the photo has been taken.

I have tried all resolution's etc (12mp, 24mp, 48mp HEIF & Pro Raw.) this has affected th 1x and 5x camera.

My 14 won me a few awards for photo's and consider myself fairly knowledgeable on iPhone Photography. The 15 just isn't putting out good quality images.

All photo's are stored "on device" so there is no iCloud trickery happening.

The below is an example of what I am talking about.

I left the comment before and now I solved the problem.

I called to Apple Support, was talking with them, but they could do nothing. Then my good friend, who is working in Apple Support 😉 advised me to recover my iPhone with complete erasure of data. Yes, it’s a big deal, but I did it. Then started iPhone 15PM without using Apple ID and without my data and BINGO! The camera just amazing! Then I erased again and set up it like my iPhone with my iCloud transfer data.

You can reset it through Mac directly. I did it with 3utools.

As my friend said it could be a software error when you transfered your data first time. Sometimes it happens with new iOS and new phones.

I just came from the XR (which, btw, I despised more than any other phone I’ve ever owned!) and with the exception of night lighting, even the XR had better photos compared to the 15. Everything I take with the 15 just looks harsh…myself 😲, my puppy, nature. Filters and settings don’t even help. I’m really disappointed because I held off for two miserable “XR” months for the 15 to come out.

I'm having the image quality issues. I initially thought I was imagining the poor image quality but have since compared the images with my 14 Plus and my daughters 13 Pro. The 14 and 13 both appear to have slightly sharper images whereas the 15 Pro Max image quality looks grainy and generally poor. Do we think this is a hardware or software issue as this is one of the only threads I'm able to find mentioning image quality, the reviews appear to rate the camera?

If it’s not to say about the 15 Pro, I definitely can tell you I went into the store yesterday at Verizon and I was testing out the camera that they was saying if you take a picture in raw photo there is an option for the Focus mode, which was removed, basically what’s the point of getting your iPhone 15 when the iPhone 14 kills the 15 in many ways right now as a photographer I would recommend staying on a 14ProMax. I’m happy with it now if it was a big jump to 200 megapixel and it was fixed then that’s a big difference now if you tell me, this is taking yesterday on my iPhone 14 pro with my Westcott lighting.

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing these issues.

I have the 15 plus and the quality of the pictures is far worse than the iPhone 12 I used to have.

The selfies are of horrible quality and once I take a picture and go look at it on the photos app, the lighting is completely different than it was on the camera preview and the picture appears low quality and grainy.

However, if I take a selfie using Instagram's camera it's not as bad.

I hope Apple fixes this ASAP.

Left is taken from my iphone 13PM and right is iphone 15PM. took the photo at the same time. shocking and very disappointed with the quality of the 15PM. very grainy, can't read the text unlike the 13. called customer service twice but can't help me aside from telling me to restore the phone and do the settings. they said they don't see anything wrong with it. 😑

I held on to my trusty iphone 7+ until this year where iOS 15.7.9 could no longer work with watchOS 9.

I was never an avid photographer and simple concepts like how times zoom or focal length baffles me. For my normal use case of taking close up shots of static objects, my iphone 7+ was just a simple point, adjust the focus slightly and the pic comes out pretty.

Ever since I “upgraded” to an iPhone 15 Pro Max, I started to think that I have received a lemon. Besides the overheating issue that consistently happywhen I view the photo album and do simple edits like cropping, the problem with 5x zoom lens resulting over exposed and grainy pics totally frustrates me.

I have already factory reset my phone once and none of these problems go away. I waited for iOS 17.1 to be publicly released on October 24th but that never happened either.

I wish I had done more research on the camera issues starting with iphone 14 pro.

Yesterday I reset the phone and install the IOS Software via MACbook. It didnt change anything. The front camera still take grainy and blurry selfies. Comparing it with Iphone 12 and 13 series the difference in 14 and 15 series are huge. The better the camera features the worse the photos. Hope Apple will take these comments and provide a solution as soon as possible. Maybe an IOS update, or maybe a filter for the camera like android products. They can provide a filter like bright & beauty & smooth options. Hope this front camera problem will solve. It is so sad to capture Darker, blurry blemished, grainy cold selfies with the latest Iphone of Apple.
