Screen sharing broken in Sonoma
Tried for hours cannot get this to work after upgrade to Sonoma.
Tried for hours cannot get this to work after upgrade to Sonoma.
To follow up ... I did an experiment and turned Remote Management ON on the target mini running Sonoma 14.2.1 , the machine I need to be able to share its screen. I then tried to share the mini's screen from my iMac and when I gave my user name and password it still claimed it was wrong, even though I am the only administrator account on the mini.
When I shut Remote management back off and turned on Screen Sharing everything worked perfectly again.
So it is Remote Management that is broken! Turn off Remote Management and turn on Screen Sharing and you are good to go.
This does not seem related to screen sharing but to work with an external display. Please start a new thread and give details about your mac, your display, how you are connecting the display (type of connection like usb-c or hdmi) and any specific cables, adapters or docks between the mac and the display.
When you finally connect, do you find that there is a delay when trying to control the other person's screen?
When I try it, I am experiencing quite a delay.
Before Sonoma, I never experienced any delay and the control was extremely smooth
Since upgrade to Sonoma, Screen Sharing is broken on headless Mac Mini M2. The Mac shows up in the network list on the local network with the screen share button available. It is slow to present an authentication window. Once credentials are entered, it just spins never authenticating. That is the current state. Earlier, after reboot, it would connect, and we were presented a new option for high speed connections? and a virtual screen number of one or two. We selected One. Seems to work for the session but when you log out the user, the screen goes black instead of returning to the user login screen. At this point, you cannot connect to the mini via screen share. The Mini was upgraded two days ago. The virtual screen selection is a new wrinkle and to be honest, I'm not sure what it is trying to accomplish. Eventually, everything degrades and nothing works. The main client is a MacBook Pro M1 running Sonoma. Target, as stated earlier, is a Mac Mini M2. Other machines on the network running older OS can no longer access this machine as well.
Screen Sharing, a MUST for my work, results in a laggy mouse to the point it becomes unusable. This is a disastrous (and embarrassing) glitch both for my work and for Apple. It's imperative to fix this ASAP.
I cannot believe we are still waiting for a fix on this, nearly 8 weeks after the release of Sonoma.
It makes me wonder just how much testing goes into new releases.
I am so close to reverting back to Ventura
Hopefully, the update will come soon. My workmates are on the fence about going Mac, this isn't helping when I have to rely on others (with non-Macs) to present. I can connect through Apple TV but the mouse is impossibly laggy once connected.
You mean Mac (it's not an acronym, it's just short for Macintosh), but it could be a LOT of things. We would need to know much more, and it might be best to start your own question about that since it includes a third party device.
The inability to remotely control another Mac on my network is causing so many headaches and wasting so much time I wish I had never upgraded to Sonoma on my main workstation. Upgrading (downgrading) to Sonoma was a GIGANTIC MISTAKE. What ever happened to QA and critical bug fixes before release? Whoever the QA manager was on the Sonoma project should be terminated immediately.
I just did the update on both my iMac and Macbook Pro. Can't believe it doesn't work anymore.. I'm with support on the phone while writing this and they want me to bring my mouse thinking the mouse is the problem... smh I'm changing back to Ventura write away hoping they find a fix soon! I won't go back in 2005 with 2 keyboards!
It is now 16 January 2024 and while my Mac Mini M2Pro can screen share with my 27" iMac running Mojave (10.14.6) successfully, when I try to screen share from the iMac to the Mini, and I enter an admin name and verified password it always says the connection failed.
I even changed my password on the Mini and it STILL will not let me log in.
Cmon Apple get this fixed! I _NEED_ to be able to screen share with my Mini !
On our ICT Lab in our school which has 28 mac mini M2 and 1 mac mini M2 for ICT Teacher, 3 student's mac mini upgraded into sonoma, mac mini for teacher also upgraded into sonoma and the rest 25 mac mini M2 stil using ventura and when we share screen to all 28 student's mac mini 3 sonoma will pop up crash message and other 25 ventura mac mini will blank screen, but if we share screen only to those 25 ventura mac mini all are working well. Please fix this ASAP since share screen on day to day education process is a must for us. thanks
FFS how frustrating! I updated to Sonoma 14.3.1 last night, was just on a zoom screen share meeting and tried to mirror my iPhone and the attendees couldn’t see it on their end, they could only the screen share of my desktop! Is there a way I can roll back to previous update?? I literally can’t my job until this bug is fixed!
To help others, it would be nice if you could tell us WHAT exactly of the many suggestions above helped you?
Oh, never mind, it's my fault: I didn't see the tiny-print 'in response to' by the minimalistic designers at Apple.
Thanks!
Are there any updates on this? I am losing my mind trying to get Screen Share to connect. (I can File Share but I can't screen share.) I feel like I have tried all the recommendations from all the communities. This is affecting my job.
Update: disconnected from remote machine for ~24 hours and Screen Sharing stopped working. Logged in once and remote screen was frozen. Logged out and attempted to login again—failed.
Hello Apple: what is going on? This issue has not been resolved for months.
