set up yahoo email on ios

I got this error message when trying to send email. First time I have seen it in 7 years of using iPad and Mail client to connect to my Yahoo email

Cannot Send Mail

The connection to the outgoing server "apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" failed.

Additional Outgoing Mail Servers an be configured for Mail accounts in Settings > Mail > Accounts.

I cannot see anywhere at that point to ADD a server connection/name.
I tried REMOVING that email user account - and re-adding, same issue/message - Cannot Send Mail.

Is this a Yahoo issue? or an IoS one?

My h/w is iPad Air2, model MH182B/A using IoS 15.7.9

In common with many other Mail providers, Yahoo now use App Passwords to secure access IMAP or POP3 mailboxes.

The Mail App on each of your devices, such as your iPad, requires a unique password to be generated from within the Yahoo account. This App password intentionally differs from your Yahoo account password - and can only be used to access your Yahoo mail.
