Yahoo email in the yahoo mail app works fine. However Yahoo emails received and sent usually fail in the iOS Mail app. Error messages are “mail not downloaded from server” or “incorrect password in settings”, etc. This started happening a couple of years ago on my iPhone and iPad. I’ve tried all known suggestions and none have worked. I have upgraded both the iPhone and iPad and the problem remains.

Yahoos mail servers are garbage. They have been for decades. They have dozens if not hundreds of them and they often get out of sync. What you're seeing is typical of hitting a 'bad server'. You have no control over which host you actually hit when using a mail client.
The best solution is to dump Yahoo mail and switch to another provider or just use the Yahoo mail app or web mail.

Thanks for the reply. I understand. I have a number of other email addresses. I keep hoping for a fix. I’ve been avoiding doing this but I'll probably have to move all yahoo sub folders to Gmail and change my log-in email address to many apps and web sites as well.
