Black screen is being displayed when I set a wallpaper on macOS Sonoma

I have an 2019 iMac 21.5 and installed OS Sonoma two days ago. I setup my wallpaper to randomly select photos from a personal folder and it worked for the first day. Now when I start up my machine, I only get a black screen. I tried switching to one of the Apple images, restarted and it still gives me a black screen. The lock screen is also black. The screen saver works using the same folder of photos. Has anyone had the same issue and been able to find a fix?

Hi all, I found that opening launchpad, mission control, create a new desktop (use + sign on right hand side) and set wallpaper then works, with what ever you choose. You can then delete the first one that refuses to allow wallpaper changes if you want.

If Apple continue to act like an Ostrich they will loose buyers. Sonoma 14.3 wallpaper user option to use their own folder of wallpaper images does not work! It hasn’t worked from the introduction of Sonoma. Why I do not know. I also do not understand why - the same function works perfectly fine with screen savers. No amount of sending feedback to Apple seems to work. We users are being ignored.

The wallpaper functions of MacOS worked fine then all of a sudden they did not. One would think a company on the scale of Apple would stop adding functionality to a part of their software with pre-existing issues remaining unresolved. Kinda like changing the oil to solve a flat tire. The tire is flat Apple. Get your hind parts out of the backseat, grab a jack and tire iron, and return the vehicle to its former glory.... Three or more prior versions back.

You named Sonoma wrong. You should have called it "H-E-double hockey stick's Kitchen" with dynamic wallpaper images of dumpster fires in the hood.

I am using an iMac 24inch apple mi chip and sonoma 14.0

Until a few days ago, I was using one of my photos as a wallpaper and have had no problems for since sonoma was downloaded. A few days ago there was a power outage and when I restarted my imac, the wallpaper came up as he sonoma default. Under System setting>Wallpaper, the photo shows as being set as I want it but I cannot it get to display on the monitor as wallpaper. I have tried setting other Landscape photos as wallpaper but cannot get anything but the original default.

I have tried right clicking on the photo on my hard drive and setting as default wallpaper but that had no effect.

Is there anything else I can try to select any wallpaper other than the default?

This new desktop wallpaper changer is dreadful. I'd be ashamed to release such a poor piece of software. I have thousands of favourites and want to use those, all of them, so having to click each individual photo is not an option.

On Monterey this was easy - I just selected the Favourites folder. On Sonoma (I bought a new Mac) this is not possible. It needs ripping out and starting again.

When I try to choose my own wallpaper from desktop or a folder it just doesn't show or is applied. And when it is applied after some time it's just removed and changed with a landscape all by itself and when I go to "change wallpaper" a question mark is shown on that particular desktop wallpaper. After that when I try to choose the same wallpaper again it just doesn't work and this happens only with other desktops except DESKTOP 1.please tell me what should I do? or if it is a software error just fix it.thank you.
