Black screen is being displayed when I set a wallpaper on macOS Sonoma

I have an 2019 iMac 21.5 and installed OS Sonoma two days ago. I setup my wallpaper to randomly select photos from a personal folder and it worked for the first day. Now when I start up my machine, I only get a black screen. I tried switching to one of the Apple images, restarted and it still gives me a black screen. The lock screen is also black. The screen saver works using the same folder of photos. Has anyone had the same issue and been able to find a fix?

Hi all, I found that opening launchpad, mission control, create a new desktop (use + sign on right hand side) and set wallpaper then works, with what ever you choose. You can then delete the first one that refuses to allow wallpaper changes if you want.

Come on Apple DO YOUR JOB !! I have a brand new I Mac and have this issue with wallpaper. No wonder your people are leaving..

I just upgraded to 14.3... Its still happening !!! I want to use my favorite photos for wallpaper & it just doesn't work right.. The fixes on this thread only fix it temporarily !

The sad thing is I don’t think it will ever get fixed. I even remember the previous version of MacOs had wallpaper issues. It wasn’t as bad as Sonoma but it still had issues.

You cannot reset VRAM on mac's with silicon chip.

I tried restarting in safe mode and the required photo came up. I then restarted as normal and required photo came up but as soon as I logged in, the default wallpaper came up again. The required photo showed up as default in Settings>wallpaper but I could not use it or any other of the wallpapers as default.

I also tried resetting vram but it had the same effect as avove.

Thank you, but the Safe Mode/First Aid didn't fix it. I'll try the Product Feedback link.
