iPhones keep “connecting” when near each other

I have two iPhones, one with a French SIM and the other with a US-based SIM. All of a sudden when they are near each other they make a groovy noise and say they are “connected.” I don’t want them to be connected. I need to see my French call record distinct from my US one. What’s going on?

Deelouiseh, thank you thank you thank you! Man, this has been maddening. This video is super helpful and also told me why all of a sudden I started getting alerts while in Silent mode, which has been another huge issue for me. I am eternally grateful!

Why Apple does not proactively push info like this after a big upgrade, or why previous defaults are not maintained, are both mysteries to me. Argh!

Hi Paris6e,

The article What’s new in iOS 17 outlines these new features of iOS 17:

"AirDrop. Hold your iPhone near someone else’s to swap phone numbers, email addresses, and Contact Posters with NameDrop. You can also initiate an AirDrop transfer, or start a SharePlay session, when you bring two phones close together. See Use NameDrop on to share your contact infoShare photos and videos by bringing one iPhone close to another, and Start a SharePlay session by holding two iPhone devices close together."

There is also Share photos and videos on iPhone which explains:

"Share photos and videos by bringing one iPhone close to another

You can transfer photos and videos from one iPhone to another simply by bringing the two devices close together."

There is no reference to call records being shared or transmitted in this fashion, nor any other information outside contact info, photos and videos if initiated, or a SharePlay session. More information on what you see on the device and experience would be necessary if different than the three examples cited.

Regards.

Thank you for the help, but these new features don’t explain the ‘connection’ as they imply you initiate something - and I have not done so. This started after I had upgraded to iOS 17 so I think it’s an unintended feature which I would decidedly call a bug. It shows call records from my America phone on my French phone, which I did not request nor do I want. 😤

I have two iPhones as well, one for personal and one for business. I was having the same issue with the call logs showing the same call on both devices, regardless of incoming, outgoing or missed calls. I did the turn off the 'bring devices together' and I'm still having the issue. I haven't narrowed it down to if it only happens on wifi or the cellular network or if it doesn't matter. This is a royal pain in the ***...!!

I hope Apple figures this out shortly because this never happened previous to IOS 17.2.1

Finger crossed...

Mine is doing the same. I just got a new iPhone and put my old SIM card from the other iPhone into the new one and transferred all my data 2 days ago. Earlier, I was showing my friend the size difference and held my two phones together and all of the sudden it did something I’ve never seen it do. It made that noise that people are calling the “groovy” noise, vibrated, and did this light rainbow thing across both phones. Afterwards, I figured it had something to do with sharing info so I checked the phones and ALL my new messages and calls were transferred back to the old phone. I couldn’t use the old one anymore unless on WiFi because it didn’t have a SIM card, but now I can. I can text from it and when I receive a call, it rings both phones. I don’t even see how that is possible for me to send messages from a phone that doesn’t have a number/SIM card.
