Audio clicks and pops with FCPX / Ventura?

I'm reposting this, because I posted it in the wrong forum and don't expect an answer. Apologies for miss-posting.

Constant audio clicks?

I'm still on the last Itel version of MacBook Pro, running Ventura 13.5.2. I've got 64 GB of memory, 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel, and AMD Radeon Pro 8GB.

I notice FCPX and Ventura are pokey together, FXPX taking a long time to load, and quit. And there is very often a lag between click and result.

And the audio tracks are often very very clicking and popping. We're talking one track here, not a whole bunch.

I'm wondering if this has come up for anyone else, and if there might be some kind of solution -- both to the slowness of FCPX and the audio clicking.

It all feels like the software has superseded the hardware here.

All ears ...

I certainly sympathize. At least in the last few versions of Ventura, I also had FCP appear slower, and most noticeably there was a significantly delay when quitting the application. The whole machine seemed to lag for a while, even Command-Tab was not working for some seconds after that.

I did my due diligence, ran Etrecheck (even though I had not installed anything nasty) and nothing.

Upgrading to Sonoma made this go away completely...

Not something to do without a BACKUP, for sure, and there are some changes that people may like or utterly dislike, but for the first time in years I just upgraded (did not erase anything), and my mac - note that it is almost identical to yours, MBP 16" 2019 16GB RAM 4GB VRAM - is far more responsive than with Ventura.

I've got a 3.8GHz 8-core Intel i7 iMac with the Radeon Pro 5500XT 8GB running FCP 10.6.5 in Ventura 13.6 and don't notice any slowdowns or audio clicks. Is the library on an external drive? External audio interface? Monitoring through wireless headphones?

Disconnect the external drive(s) and create a new library on the internal drive, do you still see/hear the same behavior? If so, post an https://etrecheck.com report after giving etrecheck.app Full Disk Access in System Settings->Privacy & Security->Full Disk Access.

I’m working on a big project, all material on two sync’d (RAID) SSD Thunderblades. The library is on the drives. Mmm. I could move the library to the MacBook. No external audio interface (working with laptop speakers until getting near the mix). Very good headphones, not wireless.

Will try what you suggest.

Though I’m reading Luis’ suggestions and he’s describing exactly my issues … so I may just back up everything and bump up to the next OS. Touch wood. I’m really tired of the sluggishness.

Will report back … thank you terryb, wise suggestions.

Hey Luis,

Luis!

You made my day.

You are describing my exact condition, clicks aside. I’m going to do a backup and cross my fingers and load in the new OS. Terryb made some good suggestions. But loading in the new system (which I’ll have to do anyhow down the line) sounds easier than trying to fix the bugs in the system I’ll be leaving soon enough.

Thank you kindly Luis (I’d been wondering about Sonoma for a few weeks). This is a monster film on a deadline … and sluggishness has been a teeth grinder.

Will report back.
