You used to be able open the picture click edit click on the pen and then have an option to put a red circle or a red box around an object in a picture. I don't see that anymore.
It is still possible to add circles and boxes to images in the Photos app on iOS using the Markup feature.
Tap Edit, then tap the pen icon in the top right to begin Markup. Tap the “+” button on the right side of the tool selector, then tap “Add Shape” to select and insert a shape. You can then edit the shape, including its colors, at the bottom of your screen.
The faster way to add a shape to your image is to use any of the drawing tools to draw a circle or square around something in the photo. Once you’ve drawn the circle or square, do not raise your finger from the screen; your drawing should automatically be converted into the shape it determined you were trying to draw.

Agreed. Apple needs to fix this MISTAKE. With every update I hate Apple more and more.
Not sure why Apple would think adding a solid shape rather than an outline would make any sense. Someone paid to literally <fix> something that wasn’t broken. You can’t make it up.
I still can’t figure it out. Can someone please give me instructions? This is by far the worst part of the new update.

This is beyond ridiculous. Something as simple as a circle ⭕️ on a picture has become so tedious that I don’t even care to use markup anymore. Apple, you all need to fix this!!

I hope more read this post because it tells you how to do it. No, it's not as easy as the old way but it's not that bad either.
The point is that it has become so tedious. It use to be a very simple process
