Can I turn off blue arrow to indicate text cursor?

After upgrading to Sonoma in each text area this blue arrow appears (see attached image),

as if to indicate where the text cursor is.

Is there a way to turn it off?

I honestly don't need it

No, it's definitely Apple - a new feature in Sonoma OS. I've had the same version of Microsoft software on my Mac for a few years with no recent upgrade. But immediately upon upgrading the OS to Sonoma, the blue arrow appeared in all my software. Specifically my Adobe software such as Photoshop, in the text fields. Microsoft would not have the power to do this Apple OS wide. But Apple would. Anyway, it turns out not to be as big of a pain as I thought, because it's only when caps lock is on. That's why it's called caps lock indicator. But some of my work flow scenarios require caps lock to be on, and then this feature becomes extremely annoying. Not adding a simple way in System Settings to turn this feature off is very short-sighted and lame on Apple's part. Not only that, it's a stupid unnecessary feature.

Professional writer. My workflow, for decades, has been to freewrite draft content in ALL CAPS and change revised sections to sentence case as they are finished.

Capslock indicator beside the field when entering password? Beautiful.

Capslock indicator in BRIGHT BLUE flashing on under my cursor every time I stop to think? Maddening. Clippy-must-die levels of maddening, because at least Clippy could be turned OFF.

Please fix this as soon as possible—and make the change granular enough that we can get rid of the blue arrow everywhere without losing the password-fail clue arrow.

Thank you.

Thanks, that's a great option for people who have access to Terminal. I'll probably do that if I update my home Mac to Sonoma before there's an official fix.

Individual users in business settings (my day job situation) don't necessarily have the skill or the access to Terminal and sudo commands to make that kind of change. This is not a realistic solution for anyone in an enterprise-managed Mac environment.

Seems redundant! My keyboard (MacBk Air) has an "on" light in the Caps Lock key. If they maybe made it a translucent blue arrow WITHOUT the opaque background it would be harmless. But as it is, it blocks your view of things that you sometimes need to see. I know when my Caps Lock is on anyway, I don't need this stupid obstruction to remind me!!

This blue arrow on all text fields in all programs is absolutely crazy. Apple - just because you can do it doesn't mean you should. I'm a very busy graphic designer and this annoying blue arrow shows up in Photoshop when I use text and in all other Adobe products. It's slowing my workflow down and greatly annoying me! If they're going to add something as pervasive and so different from what everyone is used to, they should have an easy way to turn it off. It's useless to me.

I'm pretty sure it is Microsoft (not Apple). I have recently encountered this for the first time (after decades of Apple computers and products). It happened right after I was forced to get a Microsoft account (which causing unending terrible problems). I'm forced to use Word for work (and have many old Word files myself), so I'm all Apple plus Word. Recent changes at Microsoft are nothing less than shocking. In my haste, I believe I gave Microsoft access to my Safari (though I'm certain I didn't give it access to my Metadata). Anyway, this blue is most certainly characteristic of Microsoft, and they are ALL over my MacOS suddenly. I have to figure out how to get rid of them, but Microsoft has no interest in customer service or in anything really. It is indeed very frustrating.

It is a very un-Apple-like thing, but looks very much like everything does in Word and Microsoft - same fat blue, their signature style and color. I don't think Apple would do this - it is not their style to be inefficient and meddlesome. It happened for me exactly when I got two separate (one in error, then a correction purchase) Microsoft accounts (now completely required if you want only even Word). They also entirely "removed" the accounts associated with Microsoft from my Apple Mail (took them away - poof - gone). I kid you not, and I know my computer and Apple well for decades - since the 80's. Microsoft requires that you tie an email account specifically with their Microsoft account (and of course they push Outlook). I just don't believe this is Apple. Apple is beautiful.

Here is another thing that makes me think it is Microsoft (I hear what several of you are saying about it being all over the Apple OS). I never have this blue arrow in my Apple Mail. I have four different emails all in that one Apple Mail and use it constantly.

I just got off of an employer site where I was logged in (to Microsoft and Google Drive); I try my best to avoid Microsoft as they are simply going too far these days.

The blue arrow is now all over my email. It isn't only in Microsoft documents (I have a lot of personal ones as well), it is literally inside the OS. I'm pretty sure that at one point I (stupidly and in haste) gave permission to Microsoft to access my Safari. I do not use Outlook nor do I ever want to. So this is to throw confusion into the brew. Why is that strictly Microsoft-looking fat blue arrow in my pristine, efficient, and clean Apple Mail? I seriously doubt that it is Apple. It is something that has access to the Mac OS.

So, I booted up my MacBook Pro running Monterey 12.7.5, which I believe is the most up to date OS and I don’t get any blue cursor upon clicking caps lock.

Other than my previous post regarding my iPad Pro with the Apple Magic Keyboard which was successful in removing the blue cursor error, I don’t have any further information on how to fix this issue.

Best of luck…
