Apple Pay failing

I don’t believe I had this problem for the firs few days after getting my iphone 15, but my memory is hazy on that.

When trying to use Apple Pay at point of sale, the phone detects the terminal just fine and opens up wallet, prompting me to double click. It recognizes Face ID, then just says hold near reader, never recognizing that I’m doing so. Multiple readers at multiple stores.

Rebooting my phone now and heading down to the vending machines (which take Apple Pay) in my office to see if it makes a difference. I’m fairly sure I’ve tried shortly after rebooting before, but again, my memory is a little hazy.

Any ideas?
