After I updated to Sonoma playbacking big video files in Quicktime freezes my M1 Macbook Pro. External screen is available, but laggy and all programs are freezed and not in use. Force Quitting programs in available but doesn't fix the freeze. Only way around is to hard boot.
Plz fix this asap.
PS. Thinking going back to Ventura if Sonoma is too buggy to use.

Unfortunately the bug is still present with Sonoma 14.2. In my case I have a Samsung 4K TV connected as a second monitor to my Mac Mini. After some time running a mp4 file with Quicktime everything freezes. As soon as I remove the connection to the TV the freezing stops. Notes: (1) the TV doesn't even need to be on: only connected. (2) The TV is connected via HDMI (no USB-C to HDMI adaptor). The first monitor (DELL 4K)is connected via USB-C to Display-port cable.
Did you just restore user data, or did you migrate everything? If the latter, you just negated the purpose of the clean install, and just got back to where you started.
This has gotten insane to be honest, probably is the worse issue in APPL history, I see it’s more than just QuickTime, I did get relief in some cases by relaunching Finder.
With no second monitor/tv connected, only my main 1440p120hz display.... and other apps closed. I started a video in QT and left it to play, after 5 minutes moved the mouse, no freezing or crashes.
I assume with Sonoma 14.1.2 folk are STILL getting freezing 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
No, but I only tested it briefly in VLC and QT.
I will try it again tomorrow, if an external monitor is available to me.
I miss some comments here, I can see the content in my e-mail notifications.

No. But the posts are sometimes in chronological order, sometimes not. It's a mess só it is sometimes difficult to find a comment done earlier among 70 already

same here, please fix the problem. After a some mins of watching as soon as I touch the mouse the MBA M1 freezes completely.

Agree still a bug! For me it happens on VLC too not just QT
The bug had disappeared with 14.2 and is now back with 14.3. Great work, Apple!
I just updated my M1 MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.3 and the bug is still there. I'm running a Samsung 32" external monitor and it's behaving just like the previous replies have indicated.
In Sonoma 14.2.1 bug is still present for some of us, but others mentioned that earlier.
