Upgrade to 16.7 Word Emergency on screen

After a successful upgrade I now have to log into my phone..didn't have to do that before. And at the bottom of the screen is the word Emergency. What is this for..am I supposed to tap it to complete the upgrade.

Be very careful.

Let’s address this “Emergency” issue first, then the “Upgrade” issue.

”Emergency” appears because when you’re asked to unlock your iPhone, even if you don’t know how to do that, your iPhone is available to use in an emergency situation. You may call 911 from any iPhone, whether yours or not, whether you can unlock it or not.

Now let’s discuss iOS upgrades. Upgrades provide enhanced security, defect repairs, and may provide new features. iOS upgrades should always be applied as soon as Apple releases them.

Yes, surely upgrade is always helpful as it intent to provide new features, remove existing but and enhance security. But what is the use of it, if your device doesn’t provide basic service. To give you some example below are the issues that I faced.

1) My iPhone XR after upgrade started giving problem with touchscreen, none of its keys on left side were working

2) Current problem, my I watch series 6, now don’t respond to horizontal swipe and it hide date as if it is secret code and only visible when I touch it

And there is at least one issues with each upgrade.

And Apple support person not ready to accept this is fault and they have responsibility to fix it.
