Airpod Microphone muffled, and airpods won't reset

I recently bought a pair of second hand, brand new Airpod Pros. The sound is good, but when I leave voicenotes/calls, my voice is very muffled and hard to hear what I'm saying.

I have looked many online forums, and it says the main two likely issues are grit/dirt , changing the microphone setting to 'left' or 'right' ear only, or factory resetting them. Well, they are new, so there is no dirt from what I can see... I have already tried changing the mic to 'left ear only' or right ear, and it doesn't make a difference. And when I follow the steps to reset them, they simply will not reset - the light stays green when the lid is open. Setting them up on my iphone worked fine, so I don't think they are still connected to another apple account.

What could the issue be? I can't see any damage, they're in great condition. Is the fact that they won't reset related? I am unsure what else I could try, to make the microphone work.

This is exactly what I am experiencing. Have you had any success with your airpods?

After many many hours of trouble shooting I have discovered several things that are suspicious with my Airpods Pro 2 in addition to the microphone being terrible on phone calls and Facetime. The mic works perfectly fine with a voice memo.

Also, just like you described my Airpods will simply Not reset. They appear to reset going through the Amber flashing and then finally flashing White however they are not actually resetting. How do I know this? Because they are still named “My Airpods” like I named them. Here are some other items I have noticed after researching:

  1. When Airpods are in the case and charging the Amber light is on but Not blinking.
  2. Firmware will not update. Mine are stuck on 5E135.
  3. Following Apple instructions for pairing after “reset” proves the above: Amber light is not flashing with lid open. Mine are always flashing white. Sometimes solid amber but not flashing as support article states.
  4. when trying to pair with solid amber it says not my airpods pro even though they are still visible in my Find My.

Bottom line is that the Airpods/Case will not reset as they should and I am unable to use my Airpods for phone calls and facetime. Extremely disappointed.

I have spent hours on these forums and tried more “solutions” than I even care to admit. They are still under warranty until July 2024.
