Why should I have to pay for a new charger?

I am about to leave Apple even though I love them. I just upgraded our phones and now I need a USBC charger? My entire house and car runs off of regular USB. Apple seems like it’s just trying to rip everybody off.

USB-C is what manufacturers are moving to, not just Apple. The reason is that USB-C is a port type that supports higher data transfer rates over your older USB-A ports ... and this is what users demand.

You don't need to purchase a "charger." Instead you just need to get either a USB-C to USB-A adapter or cable; Not not only for your new phone, but for any future USB-C devices you purchase.

FYI, the iPhone's "charger" is actually built into the phone itself. The device that you connect to the phone is a power adapter & charging cable.

Apple was also forced, to some extent, in this direction by the EU.

Technology changes. When Apple moved from the dock connecter to lightning, people were up in arms. People who use Android phones were similarly outraged when Android phones moved from mini-USB to micro-USB ports. Generally speaking, all of these changes have, in the end, proved to be for the best. The dock connector had actual moving parts which broke, for example.

Computers are moving away from USB-A ports. I haven't had a computer with a "standard" USB port since 2017. When I bought the first one without them, I bought a couple of adapters.

You can do whatever you want. Threats don't work here. We have no investment in your selection of phone.

Do note however, Samsung does not include a charger with its phones, and all the phone's out there have used USB-C chargers for a while. Apple is the last manufacturer to move to USB-C.

With that said, you can buy a USB-C to USB-A cable instead of a charger and use your current chargers and car normally.
