Activity app crippled in WatchOS 10
I recently purchased my first Ultra and was surprised to see that the weekly summary in the Activity up on the watch no longer displays walking/running distance and step count. I checked on my other watch (Series 6 running OS 9.x) and sure enough that info was still there. I thought that maybe I missed some setting during the setup that enables distance and steps in the weekly summary but try as I might I could not find any such setting. So I upgraded my Series 6 to OS 10 and, to my horror, distance and steps are no longer there on this watch also! So it is clear that the culprit is WatchOS 10.
Why would Apple remove such an important feature and keep the useless stand hours? Over the years I found that knowing my current weekly distance total motivated me to meet my goals. I'm likely to put on some serious pounds until this feature is restored LOL.
I contacted Apple support about this and they were completely clueless. The rep looked at his own watch and said "Oh yeah, you're right -- weekly distance total is gone. We'll let the development team know!". Curiously, Apple's most recent instructions for the watch (dated Sep 18 2023) say the following:
- Open the Activity app on your Apple Watch.
- Tap in the upper-left to see your weekly summary, or you can swipe up to see details for each ring.
- Swipe up again to see more, like your total steps, your distance, and workouts.
Seriously?!
