"Missing Plug-in" when inserting image into Mail Signature

I have just had to have my Mac reformatted by the Genius Bar to resolve issues. Now hen I try to insert an image into a Signature in Mail it shows the text but the image is replaced by a grey block with the "Missing Plug-in" message.

I have previously used this signature with the image on this machine when it had previously been updated to Sonoma from Ventura.

Anyone any ideas on this?

You do not say why you had to have your Drive reformatted(?) is there a bigger issue...

Not sure the relevance of the screenshot...

where is the message?

I see now your SS was so tiny I could not read it

Note—None of my 5 signature w/ images have been affected by the Sonoma upgrade...

What I can say— Plug-ins are no longer supported in macOS Sonoma.

The new way is "Extensions" see: Mail>Settings>Extensions

—Delete/ Remove/uninstall any old Plug-ins

—If there is a third party involved look for an update there.

Delete the old signatures and build them back new and compare your results.

Following up from my original post: the problem has been "fixed" in a rather dramatic way.

I know this reply is not going to be very helpful, but I was experiencing a variety of issues with my nearly new Mac Mini and had spent a lot of time with Apple Support and the Genius Bar in my local Apple Store. In the end I lost my patience and insisted that they replace the logic board – which they did. Since having the machine back with a clean install of Sonoma I have not experienced any problems, as yet.

As part of the troubleshooting before the logic board was replaced, I also tried a new User and it worked OK with that. My best guess is that something happened when the bloke at the Genius Bar supposedly reformatted the machine (which I don't think he did properly – but that is another story) which introduced a problem in the OS.

It is now impossible to add an image to the signature having exactly following the Apple instructions.
As before to merely says to drag the image into the required position. I have tried all the common image formats and none work.
No Plug-ins and no Extensions are mentioned in the Apple instructions and none are present on my two other Macs which were upgraded from Ventura which do not have this problem.

Quite Mail, relaunch it holding the Shift key down, compare your results.

Hi Paul. You need to do an Erase and Install which completely wipes the Macintosh HD get rid of the problem. Simply re-installing macOS leaves whatever is causing the problem in place and the problem persists.

Be aware that this process erases everything from your MacintoshHD. Back-up you data before you do this.

I know this doesn't help but I have Sonoma 14.1.1 with Mail 16.0 and I was able to create a signature which includes a graphic with no problem. I wonder if perhaps the image you're trying to use is too big? Maybe try a smaller image. Try to resize it with Preview and save it as a smaller image. The reason I responded is just to let you know it's not an inherent problem with 14.1.1 since I'm able to create sigs with an image. This is the image I used and it's 10KB in size. Also...as info, it is a .png file.

Just received a new M3 MacBook Pro with Sonoma installed - used Migration assistant to move my apps over from Monterey.

All my Mail Signatures with my JPEG Signature logos show "Missing Plug-in". Trying to create a new Signature in Mail and dragging a JPEG image in gives same. result. Looks to like they just forgot to add support for images in Sonoma Mail?

My signature images were not affected by the Sonoma upgrade from Ventura. The problem has only occurred since the Mac was re-formatted by the Genius Bar with Sonoma installed which has, at least temporarily, solved the many other issues which the machine had from new less than two months ago.
