f3 key stopped working as it used to.

My f3 key no longer works. I accidentally discovered if I use the fn key in conjunction with it it will work as it originally did, meaning it scatters the windows so you can find open windows easily. how can I get it to just be a one push task rather than having to use the fn + f3 keys together like it used to be? running Ventura 13.6

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Can you post a screenshot of your Keyboard/Keyboard settings pane?

Also give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

My apologies, I should have mentioned I have already tried this. I've checked for updates, restarted, disconnected then reconnected keyboard...I do see one difference in the pic you provided (thanks!) and instead of showing "use f1, f2 keys as standard function keys, mine says Press fn key to...Do nothing. other choices are "change input source, show emojis, or start dictation. I feel the secret is somewhere in there. any ideas on how I can get mine to look like yours??

Unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's, school's or bank's servers, they provide false security from a privacy standpoint.  Read these two articles: Public VPN's are anything but private and Former Malware Distributor Kape Technologies Now Owns a Number of Public VPNs and a Collection of VPN “Review” Websites.  And they take up system resources affecting the overall efficiency of the Mac.
