Hi, BecWhise, John B here, I’ll try to help you out… there should be an official model number on it( on the outside of it) it starts with “A” then 4 numbers/digits, like this “Axxxx” . Find/write down that number, if you have an iPhone, or smartphone with a camera, take a photo/screenshot… remember it, and go to www.everymac.com……,there you should be able to find the year of manufacture, and type of every Mac ever made, they also have iPad and iPhone info there too… if you have a really old MacBook, you’ll need to have the original install
DVD’s as well, as that’d be the only way to reset the admin/login password… for Macs that are newer ( Intel Mac’s ) there should be a built in Recovery Partition ( from Mac OS 10.7 Lion onwards) , to get to that, restart, holding down the Apple/command/cloverleaf key +R together on startup… if you see a language selection screen, it worked… pick one+ continue… you’ll need to access the Terminal.. to do that, move your cursor ➡️ to the top Center of your screen and click, you should see “Mac OS X Tools”… pick terminal, Get that going and continue… in Terminal type in
resetpassword
just like that, one word, no quotes, all together, then press enter/return on your keyboard, that’ll get you into the main Admin/Login password resetting application..,

If the seller did not do this: What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support
the computer is of no value to you and you will not be able to use it. Return it to the seller.
Take it back. You were sold a Mac NOT properly setup for resale.
