owc external thunderbolt drive issue

i have a new mac mini M2

i have a owc drive connected to a owc thunderbolt hub connected to the mini

when the mini goes to sleep it disconnects the owc drive i see an error message that the drive was not properly disconnected ? also the mac wages up by me just waling in the room. is there a way to ajust that?

i did not have these issues when i had mi 27" imac.

should i connect the owc directly to the mini?

Is the OWC hub a Thunderbolt3 dock or the newer Thunderbolt4/USB4 dock?


Also, check all your cables. The latest and greatest USB-C connectors can weaken their connections if left plugged in for extended periods of time. I have encountered this on several occasions where the slightest bump will cause a disconnect and it was with different devices.


Also, I agree with @hcitas that sleep with the new Macs is not necessary as they draw so little power compared to Intel. My system, I keep running 24/7 and only use the Lock Screen function which eventually will kill the display signal so there is no burn in.
