Tap to pay and tap to airdrop suddenly stopped working on iPhone 13

I updated to iOS 17 a few days ago, been using tap for airdrop, I've always used tap to pay for credit card, but now it doesn't work. When the card says "hold near reader" nothing happens, and when I'm on airdrop and it says move close to iPhone and shows the picture of them touching, nothing happens at all.

Thank you for keeping us updated. We'd like to recommend a few more settings to check and steps you can try. Follow the steps below:


1.) Make sure you're not connected to any VPNs: Check VPN (Virtual Private Network) and third-party software to help resolve network connectivity issues - Apple Support

2.) Confirm that Screen Time restrictions are turned off: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

3.) Check for any possible configuration profiles that might be installed: Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple Support

4.) Refresh your communication settings by resetting your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before. If you're using iCloud Keychain, these settings are also removed from other signed-in devices.

To start off, please make sure these are the steps you are following for these processes: Use Apple Pay for contactless payments on iPhone - Apple Support and How to use AirDrop on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.


Additionally, as with all unexpected iPhone behavior, try taking the following steps which may help with this: restart your iPhone, make sure it is up to date, close the affected app then reopen it, and make sure all apps are updated.


Restart your iPhone

“1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.

2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.

3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."


Update your iPhone or iPad

“1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.

2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.

3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now."


Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

“1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.

2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close. 

3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app."


How to manually update apps on your Apple device

“1. Open the App Store.

2. Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.

3. Scroll to see pending updates and release notes. Tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All."

I’ve tried restarting with no success, I’m on the most recent software, and it’s not app specific. It’s just that whenever I tap to pay, nothing happens, and when I tap my phone to someone else’s for airdrop while on the right screen nothing happens. Regular Apple Pay just like on a website works and so does regular airdrop, it’s just the tap features. The setting to enable them is also set to allow.
