Contactless payments don't work on iPhone 13 After iOS Update

Hello,


Since updating to iOS 18.3.1, I've been unable to make contactless payments with my iPhone 13. Previously, there were no such issues. Even after updating to iOS 18.4, the problem persists. The issue arises in stores when I double-click and it prompts me to "hold near reader", but the reader fails to recognize any of my cards. I should mention my iPhone was designed for the Chinese market, and I currently reside in the EU. However, I don't believe this is related to the issue, as NFC technology is standardized and I experienced no problems before the iOS 18.3.1 update.

Look in your Apple App Store for an NFC tools app. There should be multiple free ones to choose from. Download and install the app and check if NFC is functioning. I use an app called NFC Checker.


It will tell you if NFC can be activated. If it can’t, that’s the issue and Apple will need to service the NFC module. If it activates, remove the case, if any, and try an Apple Pay transaction.


You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.
