XR Unresponsive to Touch

My iphone XR recently became unresponsive to touch. The screen doesn't react when I tap on it. It will react to the volume up and down buttons and the power button, but it won't react to touch. I've tried force restarting it, but it hasn't worked. The battery has also died and it has remained off for a long period of time and has been turned back on. It can receive notifications and text messages too.

My main concern is that my photos haven't been backed up and there are a year plus worth of photos on their I can't get. I can't back it up because the iphone needs you to unlock the phone to use accessories. Any of the solutions I've found would wipe the photos, and that would be extremely upsetting.

If anyone knows a way to fix this issue or backup my photos, please let me know.

You definitely have a couple of important issues to address here. To start out with, these steps could help with the screen response issue: If your screen isn't working - Apple Support. Follow this guidance to see if it will help get your device working as expected again.

As far as the backup goes, this page details all of the ways you can backup your iPhone: Back up iPhone - Apple Support. If you've already set up iCloud backups, you would simply need to connector your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network and lock it, then the backup will begin automatically without screen input. That must be already set up though.

All other backup methods will require that your iPhone be functioning as expected in regards to screen input.
