change user name on original .mac account

After all the years of having my blabla at.mac id from the first day they were available I now am sick and tired of the spam that gets through as my address is on fraudulent email lists that are sold to spammers (like millions of others). I want to change my blabla at.mac id to a new one but not have to create a new account. Is that possible and just inform my contacts / bank / companies of my new address ??

Or is it better to create a new apple ID with a different id that is another email address then regrettably have to inform all the connected contacts of the new address?

I have given up with apple in terms of the reporting and forwarding spam etc to apple because they never block at their inbound server level to prevent it arriving in our mailboxes. I used to forward / report all the spam and phishing junk but don't bother any more. It just does not work.

Just an idea, if you have a Mac, use SpamSieve.

After you changed your main Apple ID, check your alias mail.

Sign in to your Apple ID account page and edit / update your Apple ID details -> https://appleid.apple.com

Don't know what you mean by that. In principle, you should always keep the software up to date.

OK thanks for the info. One more question.

I have created an alias email address under my current email account. Am I able to retain that alias once I have changed my main email address or must I lose that alias and create a new one or name same again under new email address.

OK, just to clarify if I may and thank you for your time and patience.

  1. You said ....."After you changed your main Apple ID, 'check your alias mail'. Does this mean that my alias I created under old email address will still remain.?
  2. Once I have the new replacement email address (also new log on credential as before) will all my folders etc that I have created over the years in my original account still be there?
  3. Once I have the new email address for logging in as before, will the spam merchants that have been sending spam to the old original address no longer be able to?
  4. When I set up my email desktop client Outlook 2019 stand alone WinV, and go to access my icloud mail I will just use the new email address I have created?
  5. With reference to my iTunes account do I need to update anything there?

Many thanks.

OK, after a lot of research your information was lacking one main point hence my toing and froing. I tried about 15 times to change my @.mac address to a new on only to discover it is not possible on any acc that has a @icloud, @me and a @mac address ending.

So in your expert opinion what would be the best way to change the primary email address that technically cannot be changed as apple are a pain in this regard. I can change the email address to another non apple ending if needed but still need the access to the rest of the existing account.

I can easily live without using any of the primary @mac ending addresses.

You help and expertise gratefully appreciated.

There has to be a way as I cannot be the first person who is in this situation.
