That is correct. You can't update an iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 16 (or higher).

You aren't writing Apple here on this user to user only forum. But even if you did, they COULD NOT grant your request. The iPhone models you listed lack the hardware required to run iOS 16, so it is NOT POSSIBLE to give it to you. If you need a higher level iOS version at this point, your ONLY option is purchase a newer, more modern iPhone.

It is indeed insane. Unfortunately, the new and improved version of ASC is not going to help with that issue. The previous version of ASC wasn’t great because the “Solved and Helpful” replies were front and center, whether they were correct or useful, or not. Now with the “Best Reply” quite often, being nothing more than a me too reply being front and center, the correct answer is not presented without the new questioners actually sifting through pages of replies. It is far easier to simply ask again, and again, and again. Of course there is also the possibility that these follow up questions are just nonsense posters.

As they say: the more things change, they more they stay insane.

1. Check Compatibility: Before attempting to update, it's essential to confirm that the iPhone 7 Plus is compatible with the iOS version you're trying to install. Apple often provides a list of compatible devices for each new iOS release. Given that your current iOS version is 15, it's always good to double-check for any compatibility requirements.

2. Backup Your Device: Before proceeding with any iOS update, it's crucial to back up your iPhone. This ensures that your data is safe in case anything goes wrong during the update process. You can back up your device using iCloud or iTunes on a computer.

3. Download and Install: When a new iOS update is available, you typically receive a notification on your device. Alternatively, you can manually check for updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update. If there's an iOS update available, you'll see an option to download and install it. Make sure your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network and has sufficient battery or is connected to a power source during the update process.

It has already been explained repeatedly in this thread that an iPhone 7 is NOT capable of being updated to iOS 16. This question was answered correctly in October.

iPhone 7 has low performance, and is lacking the necessary hardware features for newer iOS.

iPhone 7 with A10 (2016-era 2P2E with 2 GB) with ~757 / ~967 performance versus iPhone XS and iPhone XR with A12 (2P4E with 4 GB) with ~1300 / ~2234. Basically, half the memory and half the single-core performance of the oldest iPhones supported with iOS 17.

The choice here being the extra effort for an older design or hobbling iOS or quite probably both, or dropping the older devices and fully using the features and capabilities of the newer processors in the newer iPhones. Supporting and testing and providing work-arounds for older devices is not without associated cost, and those older devices just aren’t going to get iOS and app features requiring newer hardware.

Hello and welcome to the thread.

If you are running iOS 15 (currently 15.8.1), then you are running the latest available iOS version.

iPhone 7 Plus is not supported on iOS 16 and later.

If you have an app that requires iOS 16 or later, you will need a newer (used, refurb) or new iPhone.

Any recent iPhone will be substantially more capable than an iPhone 7 Plus, as well.

18 pages of not one answer suggesting it is even remotely possible might make one not ask the same question so many others have asked, which ALL have been told, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. But I guess taking the time to read any of the posts in a thread you just responded too, isn't clear enough.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to update an iPhone 7 to iOS 16. It is NOT POSSIBLE to update to iOS 17. And it will NOT BE POSSIBLE to update next year, the year after or any year after.
