In Finder>Settings>General>New Finder window shows, on my iMac 2019 there is only one option, namely Recents, which I don't want to see. The dropdown arrows only give Recents and no other folders. How can I change this to Documents or Downloads ? Personally I wish Recents didn't exist at all. I'm using OS Ventura 13.5.2.

In Finder, open the Go menu while holding the Option key and select Library. Open folder Preferences, find file com.apple.finder.plist and move it to the desktop, just in case this doesn't fix the problem so you can move it back. Then check again to see if you can change the New Finder window selection.
The file com.apple.finder.plist does not appear in the Library folder. There are several others beginning com.apple but that one is not there.
Sorry, I misinformed you. I have been able to change the default from Recents to Documents. Thank you for your help.
