iPhone increases volume of MFI Hearing Aids in noisy environment

I stream radio or music from my iPhone to my MFI hearing aids (Signia Styletto) while I am making my coffee in the morning.  When using my noisy coffee grinder, the volume of the streaming increases dramatically and becomes painful if I don’t turn down the volume on the iPhone.  The same thing happens if I am outside in noisy traffic. I have tried to find a setting that will turn off this automatic increase in a noisy environment but so far nothing works. I am using an iPhone 13 with iOS 17.0.3. Does anyone know how to turn off this feature?

To address this issue and potentially turn off this automatic increase in volume, you can try the following steps:

  1. Disable Live Listen:
    • Open the Control Center on your iPhone by swiping down from the top-right corner (on iPhone X and later) or swiping up from the bottom (on older iPhones).
    • Look for the "Hearing" icon, which resembles a little ear.
    • If Live Listen is enabled, it will show up here. Tap on it to disable it.
  1. Check Hearing Aid Settings:
    • Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone.
    • Scroll down and tap on "Accessibility."
    • Under the "Hearing" section, tap on "MFi Hearing Devices."
    • Select your hearing aids from the list.
    • Look for an option related to noise reduction or environment adjustment, and try turning it off if it's enabled.
  1. Contact Your Hearing Aid Manufacturer:
    • If the above steps don't work or if your hearing aids have their own companion app, you may want to reach out to the manufacturer's customer support or visit their website for specific guidance on adjusting settings related to noise reduction and volume control.
  1. Update Firmware/Software:
    • Ensure that both your iPhone and your MFi hearing aids have the latest firmware/software updates installed. Sometimes, updates can include improvements or bug fixes related to these features.
  1. Consult an Audiologist:
    • If the issue persists, it's a good idea to consult your audiologist or hearing healthcare professional. They can provide customized guidance and settings adjustments based on your specific hearing needs and the capabilities of your hearing aids.
