How do I check status of password reset?

my sons Apple ID password is disabled. I was attempting to remove his phone from find my so we could have the phone replaced. Since the phone is nonfunctional I can’t use it to reset the password. I gave my number to Apple support several days ago but I haven’t heard anything yet. How do I follow up?

iPhone X, iOS 16

Hello Pop728,

If the Apple ID is disabled for security reasons then it'll be necessary to reset the password to continue using it. This page will help provide the available ways to reset the password: If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support

If the Apple ID uses two-factor authentication and the steps in the above page haven't helped then they'll need to utilize account recovery. This page has important details on that process: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple ID password - Apple Support

If it is disabled in the iTunes/App Store then it'll be necessary to work with Apple Support to clear that up. This link will help start the support request to reach out: https://getsupport.apple.com/solutions

Cheers.
