Famly Shared Apple Watch Series 9 GPS+Cellular Taking a Very long time to sync in Find My

So I recently bought a Series 9 watch for my kid so that they have a way to contact me in an emergency and so that i can track them if needed. Well, much to my disappointment, the Find My app takes anywhere from an 30 min to an hour to find the watch when it leaves the house. Thats not very useful in an emergency so i'm trying to figure out if i'm missing something.

It does show up in Find My devices, but it takes a VERY long time so it must be setup correctly. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hi Sulo28,

We understand you're having some trouble with Apple Watch and we want to help.

With cellular connectivity on Apple Watch, the Apple Watch will not stay connected to cellular data and location services all day as this would cause severe battery life drain.

One option to get a faster location update might be to try and wake up the device by sending a message or a Walkie-Talkie request. You could also ask your child to send you a message with an update, and that should also force the location to refresh.

You could also try setting up notifications for when your child arrives or leaves a certain location:

Get notified when a friend’s location changes in Find My on iPhone
