Thanks! After trying a number of these I ended up deleted the mail app from my phone (I have iCloud backup), restarting the phone, putting the mail app back....that did the trick! It was a weird glitch because it wasn't on any of my other devices which are all synced....❤️

Hi Kate III,

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try if your Mail app shows an unexpected badge testing after each step. Only continue troubleshooting if the step didn't produce a resolution.

  • Check to see how many Mailboxes you have on your iPhone by tapping the blue < in the upper-left corner in the Mail app. See "Organize your mail with mailboxes" to learn more Organize email in mailboxes on iPhone.
  • For each Mailbox, tap on it to open it and filter unread mail by tapping on the circle with three lines on the bottom-left. The circle should fill in blue filtering the mailbox by Unread. See Filter emails in Mail on iPhone.
  • Restart your iPhone
  • Toggle the notification off and on by going to Settings Notifications > Mail and turning Badges off then back on.
  • As the Mail app updates with the iOS, Update your iPhone or iPad

Hope this helps,

Take care.
