Transferring data to new iPhone

Whenever I upgrade my iPhone to a newer model I always have to go through the pain of having to download all my music to the new iPhone. Why can’t this be transferred along with all my other data via the iPhone to iPhone method?

Setting up my new iPhone always detracts from the joy of having a new phone.

Hey Spannermonkey,

Are you referring to your Apple Music subscription? Also, how did you restore your data onto your new iPhone? If you haven't yet, we recommend that you try using Quick start method to automatically transfer all your data onto your new device. Here's the article with more info: Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

1. Make sure that your current device is connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is on. Turn on your new device and place it near your current device. Follow the onscreen instructions to get started. If the prompt to set up your new device disappears from your current device, restart both devices.
2. Connect your device to Wi-Fi or your device's cellular network.
3. You might be asked to activate your cellular service.
4. Set up Face ID or Touch ID.
5. Choose how you want to transfer your data.

* If you download from iCloud, your apps and data download in the background so that you can start using your new device right away.
* If you transfer directly from your previous device, you'll need to wait for the transfer to complete on both devices before you can use them.

6. Keep your devices near each other and plugged in to power until the data migration process is complete. Transfer times can vary based on factors such as network conditions and the amount of data being transferred.

Let us know if this helps!

Best regards.

Hi Spannermonkey,

The best thing we can recommend, is to keep your iPhones connected to Wi-Fi and power for as long as you can. Then keep your new iPhone connected to both overnight.

Thinking this can allow the downloaded music to redownload.

If this still doesn't resolve this issue, then we'd advise to contact Apple Support, so they can look into this further.

Thank you Brian for your reply. I do intend to use the device to device method to transfer as much as I can from my iPhone 12 to my iPhone 15.

I have a lot of music downloaded from Apple Music to my iPhone 12, which I listen to during international flights or when I am in other locations where there is no WiFi or internet connection. Such as inside some buildings. Unfortunately in the UK we have very poor service in rural areas no matter which provider you are with.

After transferring the data from my old phone to the new one my music will only be available to play if I have a connection to the internet!

As you can hopefully understand, this isn’t going to work for me.

So, I will have to spend hours re-downloading all of my music collection from Apple again. Selecting each Album and Songs in turn and clicking on download! This is extremely time consuming and frustrating, because I do not know of a simple way to just download all of my Albums in one go.

I hope I have explained my issue correctly and hope that there is a succinct solution to my issue that maybe I do not know about which would help.

Regards

Dave
