How to revert iOS 17 beta install?

I stupidly installed the beta version which has changed a very important alert on my iphone. I wanted to go back to ios 16. I don’t have a computer only an ipad and iphone

The instructions given on Apple’s webpage about how to do this are not available on my iphone Have been in contact with Apple and been told its because they are still being looked at and sorted out. So why have them on their webpage as an option?

I'm reluctant to reset my iphone as I’m not sure if when I restore it from backup it will be from ios17

i’ve been told all i can do is wait for the install of non beta ios 17. Apple can’t even give me a date

its really disappointing and not what i would have expected from Apple

Okay, the straight answer. You can never go back to iOS 16, ever. You can remove yourself from the beta program and update to the release version of iOS 17.0.3 but you cannot go back. Not possible. Restoring your iPhone from a backup does NOT restore the previous version of iOS. Only your data is backed up, not your version of iOS. The restoration will always result in the latest iOS version being installed. And that is what the links you provided say.

So perhaps if you point out to us the important alert that has changed we can help. Otherwise we appear to be finished here.

what part is not available?

Have been in contact with Apple and been told its because they are still being looked at and sorted out.

Who told you this? What is being sorted out? iOS 17 is out of beta. There won’t really be a way to return to iOS 16 anymore. You can install the public release of iOS 17 now. It’s out and available, and will be offered from Settings ➡️ General ➡️ Software Update unless you already have the same or newer Beta version.

So why have them on their webpage as an option?

Have what? Betas are always an option. Instructions to remove them, also always an option. You should not be installing betas unless you are prepared to deal with them and the issues they carry.

Backups don’t include the iOS version. Restoring a backup will not return you the iOS version used to make it. You will however need to be running the version used to make it, or a newer one to be able to restore the backup.

iOS 17 is out already. The next update would be a security patch or fix and is not known when it will happen. They are released when they are required, so Apple has no way of knowing when that will be, so no possible way for anyone to give you a hard date for it.

its really disappointing and not what i would have expected from Apple

What would you expect then? You made the decision to install the beta, as you yourself admit: “stupidly” and somehow it’s Apple’s fault for not providing a magical one step instant rollback solution?

Thank you for replying.I have a videodoorbell which is connected through my wifi When someone comes to the door or into the activity zone i get an alert on my iPhone. I can then speak to a delivery man for example to tell him where to leave a parcel. I can even do this if I’m out.

Since installing ios17 the alert is really low.If it was in my bag I couldn’t hear it. I can hardly hear it when its in the open.

i’ve put the ringers on my iPhone and the doorbell app to the highest position but there’s no difference

What brand of doorbell? Does the brand specifically say it supports iOS 17? You may want to contact the manufacturers customer support line. If many users are experiencing the same issue then the manufacturer should be aware of it by now. You may wind up waiting for an update from the app developer.

You should probably go ahead and install the latest version of iOS 17. The full release version may have already dealt with your issue if it is an iOS bug.
