In car WiFi doesn't work

My IPhone 14 with IOS 17.0.4 will not automatically join the in-car (2022 Equinox) WiFi. After joining manually I get the blue checkmark but it is running off my cellular data plan. When I turn off cellular and connect manually (it doesn't connect automatically) I get the blue checkmark but I can't access the internet and there is no WiFi. Other phones can connect to the WiFi hotspot with no problems.

Try upgrading to the recent iOS 17.4. I (and many others) have been experiencing this problem with a variety of vehicles ever since the launch of iOS 16. When I upgraded to 17.4, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that my phone once again connects automatically to the in-car wifi. It's been 100% successful for 3 days now.

Hey there JakeB10,

It sounds like the iPhone is connecting to the network but is not allowing you to use the Wi-Fi. If that's the case, use the steps below to try resolving this:

Restart
Restart your iOS or iPadOS device.

Restart your router and cable or DSL modem by unplugging the device and then plugging it back in.

After you restart each device, see if you fixed the issue.

Reset your network settings
If you're using iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

If you're using iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Get more help
* If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network but you can’t get online, try to use your Wi-Fi network on other devices. If you can't get online using your other devices, there might be a service outage. Call your cable company or internet provider for help.
* Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network in a different location. If your device can connect, you need to get help with your Wi-Fi network. If your device can't connect to any Wi-Fi networks, contact Apple.
* Update your Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware and make sure that the router supports your Apple product. For more information, contact the router's manufacturer.

Take care!

Hi JakeB10,

If resetting your network settings didn't help, check to see if you have Wi-Fi Assist enabled as described in About Wi-Fi Assist. If so, try disabling that and retesting.

Barring that, if your iPhone works with other Wi-Fi networks without issue and the problem is isolated to this specific connection only, the earlier recommendation of "For more information, contact the router's manufacturer" would be appropriate to further troubleshoot that connection.

Regards.

Thank you very much for your input. I turned off WiFi assist and nothing changed. I connected to the car WiFi, I received the blue checkmark next to the WiFi name but I didn't get the rainbow signifying the connection. I stayed connected to my cellular network switching between 5G and LTE depending on location. My car WiFi transmits a strong signal, I can be as far as 50 feet away from my vehicle and I can see and connect to the WiFi signal (blue checkmark but no rainbow). Again thanks for your input. I took the car back to the dealer (Chevrolet) and they changed out the radio and did lots of troubleshooting and couldn't find anything wrong with the car or carplay.

I checked with Chevrolet and I do have the latest firmware loaded. I tried working with Apple but all they do is want me to read articles that refer to all the things I have done before (multiple times). And then they do not answer. I have been down to the Apple store and got no help there either. This is been going on for a year and a half. Thank you very much for trying to help.
