Watch series 1 isn’t connecting with wi-fi using an SE phone

I have tried the instructions to pair but is the series 1 watch too old to connect? The SE phone is older but it has update 16.7. I was hoping to determine if I really want to invest in a new watch and phone. Thank you in advance!

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Hey VictoriaDunlop,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. You should still be able to pair your Apple Watch with an iPhone using iOS 16, as shown here: Set up and pair Apple Watch with iPhone - Apple Support

Set up and pair Apple Watch with iPhone

To use your Apple Watch Series 1 or later with watchOS 6.2, you need to pair your Apple Watch with an iPhone 6s or later with iOS 13 or later. Setup assistants on your iPhone and Apple Watch work together to help you pair and set up your Apple Watch.

WARNING: To avoid injury, read Important safety information for Apple Watch before using your Apple Watch.

Be sure to check the section "Trouble pairing?" for some helpful tips. What happens when you try to pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone? Does an alert appear, and if so, what does it say?

Keep us posted.

Take care!
