Alarm not functioning properly on iPhone after iOS 17 update

Most my alarms now sound like sonar no matter what setting I change it to. I have created new alarms and it still has the sonar sound. I have the most recent updated. I’ve turned my phone on and off and I’ve done a soft reboot. How to I get my sounds back? The sonar doesn’t wake me up!

This happened to me too. I found elsewhere the suggestion that it has to do with a glitch in the alarms app in iOS 17 not properly downloading cloud-stored songs (whether Apple Music or iTunes Match).

The solution that worked for me was to go into my Music app on my iPhone, search for the song I wanted to use as an alarm, and force my iPhone to download the song thru the Music app interface. Then, when I selected the song in the Alarms app, it correctly played as my alarm tone.

Same here all around and even after downloading the chosen song in Music, no change. I was finally able to get a new alarm to sound with a different song after going into the Health app and turning off my "Sleep Schedule" under "Your Schedule". Before I did that I wasn't even able to change the sound for the Sleep|Wake Up schedule. However, as I sit here and type this, the alarm went off with the default sound I wasn't able to get rid of earlier and there isn't even an alarm set for 4:08am....so strange. Hopefully the changes will stick by keeping the Health app and Sleep schedule(s) out of the equation by turning that feature off.

This happened to me a while back and found the following which fixed the problem

  • Settings->Music->Dolby Atmos->Off
  • Settings->Music->Audio Quality->Lossless Audio->Off
  • Settings->Music->Download in Dolby Atmos->Off

I just discovered the problem has returned and the above settings are unchanged. I guess 17.4.1 broke it and now not even the above solves the problem. I’m going back to using the alarm app I got the first time this happened until/if Apple fixes such a simple issue.

I think we all know how to change the default and save it. The following is a screen shot in case maybe my clock app hasn’t updated the same way as yours because that would finally answer the question for me. Waking up to a screaming Radar noise and now a Harp scream is terrifying. Maybe it is a hardware issue. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️but thanks for trying to help.

I recall setting a tone for all alarms, not just one alarm at a time. It was like setting the ring tone, or text tone. It doesn't look like you can do that anymore?

This update kept most of my alarms to my default song, but changed a random few to radar....

Thankfully it was only a few, but it's weird that it would do anything to this... Has Apple responded to this problem?
